I saw two snailing ships
Marooned on a cement sea,
With melting masts and bobbing bows
Surging slow and free.
With inches for leagues, minute knotts
Pirate ants came sharking
Speeding swift on the solid sea
Across the sundial shadow,
From Roman nine to three,
The vessels voyaged ‘cross the vast
Face of time and sea.
And as the ships in bygone day,
They faded o’er the edge,
And disappeared to Legend’s end,
Beyond the boundless ledge.
