A New New Year’s Poem

Yes, Again it’s New Years

Yes, Again it’s New Years.
That strange time of year.
When people decide to freak out,
To scream and shout and cheer.

Yes, Again it’s New Years.
Lights and stockings down.
Christmas trees are fleeing,
Leaving needles on the ground.

Yes, Again it’s New Years.
Can you hear “Auld Lang Syne”?
No one seems to know its meaning,
And no one seems to mind.

Yes, Again it’s New Years.
And that means resolutions.
Exercise and eating right.
Same ol’ same solutions.

But that’s the thing that bugs me,
Somehow the goals we set,
Are the same ol’ goals from last year,
We haven’t finished yet.

Yes, Again it’s New Years.
But please don’t make a deal,
That you and I both truly know,
You will just repeal.

So Yes, Again it’s New Years.
So smile and be done,
‘Cause any genius on the street,
Can add the year plus one.
