Triumph Rhymes with Pain

Triumph Rhymes with Pain

Triumph is a mile long,

And often rhymes with pain.

It thinks it’s full of glory,

But that’s all in your brain.

It tried to leave you smiling;

Instead, you’re out of breath.

Farther from the start of life,

And closer to your death.

But then the seconds lengthen.

Your heart-rate normalized.

And eager-armed exhaustion,

Comes to you disguised.

Disguised in celebration,

Disguised as peace at last,

The illusion incognito,

Over all too fast.

Then you’re set to start again,

Which often rhymes with pain,

Except that now you’re stronger.

Your triumph is your gain.
